Make Believe

It’s that time of year when it’s acceptable - even encouraged - to put on a costume and be someone else for a day. Make believe is still fun at any age. Especially in challenging times, it helps us escape realities and be light, even if it’s brief.

You can play a little make believe with your postcard writing:

Erin as Dusty Bottoms, Sara as Ned Nederlander, and me as Lucky Day; Halloween 2009

  • Describe your Halloween costume: this year’s, or a favorite from the past. My personal favorite is my Three Amigos costume with my pals Sara and Erin. Good stories accompany that memory.

  • Write to a friend who likes games. Make a plan for getting lost in a world of real estate tycoons, mansion murder, or whatever video game the kids are playing these days.

  • Write as an alter ego. Write from your pet. Write something goofy. Be playful.

  • Write to your real-life superhero about how their superpowers have saved you.

Play is good for us, darlings. Grab a pen and get silly.

Congratulations to Parmeet Arora Bori, winner of our Halloween Postcard Design Contest.
