What to Write: Kate's Note-Writing Workshop

This bookstore is over 60 years old. It makes me so happy.

Last weekend, I facilitated my second note-writing workshop at the best bookshop on the planet: Country Bookshelf in downtown Bozeman, Montana.

I love this class. We go through five writing exercises, on different topics such as how to write a genuine thank you note, and how to shape a helpful, meaningful note of sympathy.

I offer advice from numerous sources, including my own experience. The richest part is the flow of ideas and suggestions among the attendees. I always learn from this group.

One woman wrote to her imprisoned brother, who has done some not-so-great things but still deserves the joy of receiving a letter from his sister.

One gentleman wrote to the ex-wife of an ailing friend, for taking care of her ex-husband.

I learned a tip for tracking birthday cards in advance: write the intended recipient’s name where the stamp will go. I learned that one woman’s mother-in-law pre-writes 2/3 of the birthday card message in advance, so she’s not scrambling to get a heartfelt note to the mailbox in time.

I look forward to facilitating this workshop again, in Bozeman as well as other communities. Perhaps yours? Drop me a line: kate@sugarandkiki.com
