Writing Multiples

Some occasions might find you trying to get a handful of notes out at once - like holiday cards or thank you notes after a major gift-giving occasion. For me, the hardest part of this task is figuring out what to say on each one.

Let me be your very own fairy godmother on this one. You don't have to write something different on each one.

Ok, yes, you may want to customize a thank you with the item received. Apart from that: it really is the thought that counts, particularly when you're on a schedule to get a pile of them into the mailbox.

Some tips for making the process smoother:

  • Write out the first part, or your template, in advance. Gather supplies and set up a system to make it efficient. I like to do mine in front of my favorite movies that I've already seen a bunch of times, so that I don't need to pay close attention. (To the movie, that is.)

  • Make notes of any personalization that will come in handy later. When you've written 15 birthday cards already this month, you might feel a little bored with the standard line. But if you noted a funny memory from this last trip around the sun, you'll have a nice personalization to make the birthday kid feel special.

  • If you get tired of writing the same thing, get out the thesaurus. When you’re thanking your neighbors for sharing holiday treats, a quick google of “delicious synonym” will help you write about how their sweets were delectable, mouthwatering, and scrumptious.

  • Share a pertinent quote on song lyric. Then all the messages are identical on purpose.
